"Re-Integrating a Frozen Ground" - 4th Year (dip 16)

 Focusing on the existing ground plane and its qualities, aiming to preserve the ground level buildings and gradually re-integrate them into the community, negotiating space inside the abandoned interiors and ground level of this factory complex, while proposing a superposed office structure/infrastructure lifted off the ground to respond to the brief that requires new governmental office programme.

A project that essentially pursues “co-habitation” of new programme and the former industrial spaces (machinery, furnaces, the mess, overgrown vegatation, etc.), treating the existing ground level almost like a delicate ecosystem and preserving a legitimate industrial atmosphere on the ground plane.

 A re-use and retrofit focused project, looking at Northampton city and where the "urban" ends and "rural" starts. 

At the edge of northampton, the vast suburban residential developments created a programmatic flatness, where there is no longer an incentive to walk anywere, as there is no place of interest in walking distance, except for getting in a car and driving to the centre.

The project proposes the former logistics & warehouse complex to become a council outreach/civic centre, incorporating a wide range of programme and flexible spaces for community use to ameliorate the once mundance district into becoming a positive landmark with embedded messages of community participation and sustainability.
